Sex Offenders and Registration
Texas Sex Offender Registration Program
The Texas Sex Offender Registration Program is a sex offender registration and public notification law designed to protect the public from sex offenders. This law requires adult and juvenile sex offenders to register with the Leander Police Department if they are currently residing within the city limits. The sex offender must report in person to the Hamilton Police Department to register or verify information. Sex offenders can schedule an appointment by calling 386-386-3810. Walk-ins will NOT be accepted.
Sex Offenders are required to provide the following information for registration and verification:
- Proof of identity-Texas Driver License or Texas Identification Card
a. Texas Driver License or Texas Identification Card must have the sex offenders current address, and
b. When applying for a driver license or ID card, the sex offender must notify the Texas Department of Public Safety that they are a registered sex offender. - Proof of residence, i.e. a lease, rent receipt, proof of home ownership, utility bill, etc.

If you have questions or information about a sex offender or wish to report a violation, such as an offender not reporting an address change, please contact the Hamilton Police Department.
The Hamilton Police Department conducts periodic sex offender compliance checks on all sex offenders to confirm the registrant's information and compliance with terms. A sex offender who fails to comply with any registration requirement is subject to felony prosecution.
Child Safety Zone Ordinance
Restrictions- CHILD SAFETY ZONE ORDINANCE
On November 13, 2018 the Hamilton City Council passed an ordinance establishing a “Child Safety Zone” within the city limits of Hamilton.
In part, the ordinance states:
"It shall be unlawful for a Child Sex Offender to establish a Permanent Residence or Temporary Residence within 1,000 feet of any Premises Where Children Commonly Gather.
It shall be unlawful to let or rent any place, structure or part thereof, manufactured home, trailer, or other conveyance, with the knowledge that it will be used as a Permanent Residence or Temporary Residence by any person prohibited from establishing such Permanent Residence or Temporary Residence pursuant to the terms of this Article, if such place, structure or part thereof, manufactured home, trailer, or other conveyance, is located within 1,000 feet of any Premises Where Children Commonly Gather.
A Child Sex Offender shall not on each October 31st leave an exterior porch light on or otherwise invite trick-or-treaters to the premises."
