Public Safety & Community Partners

Keeping Hamilton safe is a team effort. The City works closely with county agencies, volunteer responders, health providers, and other partners to prepare for emergencies and respond when help is needed. This page is a starting point to learn who does what and how you can be ready at home.

In an Emergency

Always dial 911 for police, fire, or medical emergencies. Dispatch will contact the appropriate responders, which may include the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, or other agencies.

Fire & Rescue

The Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) is an independent, all-volunteer fire and rescue organization serving the City of Hamilton and surrounding areas in Hamilton County. Volunteers respond to fires, vehicle accidents, and other emergencies and support public education and fire-prevention efforts as resources allow.

Learn more about their role in the community and how to support or volunteer by visiting the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department page.

Law Enforcement

Day-to-day law enforcement services in Hamilton are provided by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies respond to calls within the city limits and across the county, working with the City of Hamilton and other agencies on crime prevention, traffic safety, and emergency response.

For non-emergency questions about law enforcement services, please contact the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office directly. In any urgent situation, call 911.

Emergency Preparedness & Home Safety

Emergencies can happen quickly, from severe weather and wildfires to power outages and major accidents. The City encourages residents to prepare before something happens by:

  • Making a family emergency plan and contact list,
  • Building a basic emergency supply kit,
  • Practicing home fire safety and evacuation, and
  • Staying informed about local weather and alerts.

For checklists and tips, visit our Home Safety & Emergency Preparedness information.

Community & Health Partners

Public safety also depends on many other community partners, including local EMS providers, hospitals and clinics, utility providers, schools, and volunteer and civic organizations. Each plays a role in disaster planning, sharing information, and helping residents recover after an emergency.

As new resources become available, the City will use this page to highlight additional contacts and links to help you stay informed and prepared.
