Downtown Murals & Seasonal Window Art
Downtown Hamilton is our front porch — and public art is one of the fastest, friendliest ways to make it feel even more welcoming. Murals create photo-worthy moments, celebrate our stories, and turn blank walls into landmarks. Seasonal window art adds sparkle between major events and keeps the district feeling fresh year-round.

Murals in the Main Street District
Why murals?
Murals do three big things for a Main Street district:
Create identity: A mural becomes a “meet me here” spot.
Drive foot traffic: People linger, explore, and share photos.
Build pride: Art that reflects local stories strengthens community connection.
What makes a great mural location?
We look for walls that are:
Highly visible from public sidewalks (safe viewing)
In good repair (paint adheres better and lasts longer)
Accessible for installation (lifts/scaffolding can safely reach the site)
How the mural process works
Submit a Mural Interest Form (below).
Site & feasibility check (visibility, wall condition, access, utilities).
Artist + concept match (you can propose your own artist or ask us to help).
Design review (to confirm theme, scale, and fit with the district).
Approvals & coordination (permissions, timeline, safety plan).
Paint week + ribbon-cutting moment (we’ll help promote the reveal).
Maintenance plan (to keep it bright and beautiful).
Best practice note: Successful mural projects clearly document permissions, surface prep, materials, safety, and long-term maintenance from the start.
Who can participate?
Property owners in or near the Downtown/Main Street District
Tenants with written owner permission
Artists (individuals, schools, organizations) partnering with a property owner
Typical questions
How much does it cost?
It varies by size, wall prep, design complexity, and lift/scaffold needs. If funding or sponsorship opportunities become available, we’ll post them here.
Do I need to be historic-approved?
Some sites may require additional review depending on location and building conditions. We’ll walk you through what applies.
How long does a mural last?
With proper surface prep and a protective topcoat, murals can last years. A simple maintenance plan helps extend the life of the system.
Seasonal Window Art Program
Want instant charm without the permanence of a mural? Seasonal window art is removable, temporary, and perfect for boosting downtown vibes during shopping seasons and events.
How it works
Designs are temporary and removable.
Great for storefront windows, vacant windows, or interior-facing glass
We promote a “Window Walk” so residents and visitors can enjoy the whole district.
Seasonal themes (examples)
Spring: wildflowers, local icons, bright color pops
Summer: sunshine, lake days, patriotic week, back-to-school
Fall: harvest, homecoming, cozy downtown nights
Winter: holiday window walk, snow scenes, “shop small” messages
If you want to be included, check the Window Art option on the form below (or contact Main Street directly).
