Main Street Advisory Board

The Hamilton Main Street Advisory Board provides community-based guidance for the Hamilton Main Street Program within the City of Hamilton, Texas. The Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Hamilton Economic Development Corporation (HEDC), the Main Street Program Manager, the Hamilton City Council, and the City on matters affecting the Main Street Program Area.

Board Role

The Advisory Board helps guide the preservation and revitalization of the Main Street Program Area by:

  • Providing input on goals, projects, and priorities for the Main Street Program Area.
  • Supporting efforts to preserve historic character and improve public spaces downtown.
  • Advising on activities that encourage business activity, tourism, and community use of downtown.
  • Serving as a link between downtown stakeholders, the HEDC, and the City.

The Board is advisory in nature. Final authority over City and HEDC actions remains with the Hamilton Economic Development Corporation Board and the Hamilton City Council, in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

Board Composition

The Hamilton Main Street Advisory Board consists of seven (7) voting members appointed by the Hamilton City Council, as set out in the Board’s bylaws. Voting members must meet the eligibility requirements established in those bylaws. Each voting member has one (1) vote.

The Board may also include non-voting youth members and ex officio (non-voting) members as described in the bylaws. Youth and ex officio members may participate in discussions and assist with Board and Program activities but do not vote and are not counted toward quorum.

Board membership may be updated from time to time as appointments change.

Meetings

The Hamilton Main Street Advisory Board holds regular meetings and may call special meetings as needed to conduct official business.

  • A quorum consists of a majority of the voting members, as defined in the bylaws.
  • Official actions are taken only at properly posted meetings and require a majority vote of the voting members present.
  • Meetings are conducted in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and follow applicable City procedures.
